Humanise the Hiring

Behind every job application is a person – not just a name on a CV or a PDF in your inbox.

They are a human being, possibly looking to escape a difficult or toxic workplace.  Someone who may be lying awake at night, anxious about their tomorrow. A human checking their emails throughout the day, hoping for an update, even if it’s just a simple yes or no.

You may have one or more vacancies, you may be reviewing 50 applications for each role, but every application that is flagged up to you represents someone who has rent or a mortgage to pay, a family or animal to support, fuel to buy, University fees to cover….

Every click of Apply that you receive arrives with hope: for a better job, a healthier environment or more stability for someone and their loved ones.

So please only advertise for roles that are signed off, active and have had a budget approved, because a lot of hours go into re-working CVs, creating presentations, taking time off work for Teams meetings and finding the money for expensive train tickets for in-person interviews.

The same goes for when a candidate reaches interview stage, timely feedback really matters.

You’ve spent an hour with each other, they’ve given the best version of themselves to you, so your opinion gives them clarity. It allows them to move forward, whether with you or with another company.  It’s only right.

By spending a moment to respond especially when someone’s invested time and energy can make all the difference, because behind every application is someone simply trying to make life a little better.

They may be juggling other interviews, even other offers, but without your response, they’re stuck in limbo.

What we’re really saying is, this process isn’t just about filling a vacancy. It’s about real people with real responsibilities, hopes and emotions.

A small gesture of a quick phone call, email or even just a WhatsApp message can bring closure, clarity and dignity to someone’s search.

Let’s make the hiring process a little more human.
